Mirella De Falco - Future Lab Theory

PTE BTK, Building B - room 407

How do communities imagine energy futures, and what do those imaginations reveal about the politics of social change? This lecture presents the theory behind "Future Labs", a participatory workshop designed to explore the sociopsychological processes through which collective expectations for the energy transition are constructed and contested. Drawing on how psychological and social distance shapes common sense, the talk examines how the gap between probable and ideal horizons becomes a site of symbolic and political struggle. We will reflect on what this means for both the theory and methodology of futures research in social psychology, and for our understanding of what makes social transformation feel possible.
